How To Install An Additional Cooling Fan for Your Desktop

Almost every work that we have would need a computer.  Whether you’re in the engineering or manufacturing industry or you’re just a home-based programmer, a desktop or a laptop is very essential.  In this day and age of technology and innovation, one should own a computer.  In essence, having a computer is a must.  By the way, computers use fiber optic cables to transmit data digitally over long distances.
Having a computer in your house or inside your workspace is great but maintaining it is another story.  The lifespan of a desktop is usually on an average is 3-5 years.  Well it depends again to how you maintain it and use it.  So how do you maintain a desktop?  Aside from installing an anti-virus security application, you can also install an additional cooling fan to avoid over heating due to excessive use.
One of the most common reasons of computer failure is overheating.  The accumulated dust and debris causes overheating which may result to a damaged PC.  To avoid overheating, you should check and clean every your internal fan and other internal components once every three months.
If your old fan is already defective or you think that you need an extra cooling fan, you can add and install a new one.  Mounting an additional or a new cooling fan is not too hard to do.   Here is a step-by-step guide on how to install a new cooling fan:
1.     Check the size and the specs of your existing cooling fan.  Make sure that before you purchase a new one, you determine if you will replace the old one or you will add a new one and install it on the cover of your desktop.  If you’re not planning to install a new outside the desktop, then you have to get the same specs as your old one.
2.     Plan the Airflow.  Design an airflow wherein the one is blowing in and the other one is blowing out.  Check for the best spot to install the additional cooling fan.  Make sure that you don’t hit any fiber optics inside the computer to avoid future problems.  If you are just replacing an old one, there’s no need for an airflow design.
3.     Prepare the computer.  Make sure that it’s turned off before opening the case.  Work in a non-carpeted environment to avoid static electricity.
4.     Remove the old cooling fan if you will just replace it.  After removing the screws or clips, make sure that you keep all in a safe place.  Set it aside.  If your adding a new cooling fan, then you have to follow the design that you’ve created and create new holes for the screws.  Make sure that you remember where the cooling fan was connected or plugged in.
5.     Test the new cooling fan before putting back the cover of your desktop.  Make sure that all screws are back to avoid further damage.
6.     Clean the internal before reinstalling the cover.  Don’t touch any component to avoid technical problems.
Having a laptop or a desktop computer is a necessity.  Maintaining it is a must.

Fiber Optic Cables in Biomedical Applications

Fiber optic cables are found in hospitals and doctor's offices around the world. They form the backbone of advanced imaging techniques used in digital diagnostics since they can efficiently transport large quantities of sensitive data. Since these optic cables are inert (non-reactive), they introduce no risk of infection. Their flexibility makes it the natural choice for endoscopes used in minimally invasive surgical procedures. The rise of endoscopy has replaced invasive exploratory surgery in diagnosing difficult medical conditions.

There are many different kinds of endoscopes. They are carefully designed to examine a specific part of the body. Endoscopes may be rigid or flexible, but most endoscopes used in routine surgery are flexible. These two (2) kinds appear different but function similarly. They both use light to magnify and view the internal anatomy of the body.

Flexible endoscopes are useful in looking at the digestive and respiratory tracts because they have the ability to bend in curves, corners, and tight spaces. They use this type of optic cables to shine light into the body.  These thin strands of glass or plastic transmit light by reflecting it. The hollow center of an endoscope allows passage of water, air, and surgical instruments necessary to take a tissue sample from the body.

Flexible endoscopes have a tiny camera, which also uses such cables, attached to the end. The footage captured by the camera is displayed on a computer screen for the use of attending physicians. In some cases, patients are also permitted to view the images of their endoscopic procedure, but this is not the norm.

Rigid endoscopes are typically shorter in length than flexible endoscopes. They are used most of the time to view the surface level of internal organs and are usually inserted in the body via a small cut in the skin. Gas or fluid is preferably used to move the surface tissues of organs for clearer visibility. Rigid endoscopes are commonly used to examine the joints.

The rise of technological advancement in the field of fiber optic cable technology has in turn benefitted medical science through the development of valuable life-saving equipment.

Enhancing Your Home Theater Experience

Nothing beats watching your favorite movie with the same theater experience at the comfort of your own living room.  With what’s happening outside our homes such as the recent Colorado killings, you would think twice if you can still be safe inside a public theater while watching a movie.
Your home theater experience will never be complete if you don’t have the right components, speaker wires, mounts and stands.  Having that desired experience doesn’t have to be expensive.  It actually depends on your preference and definition of an experience.  Whatever type of home theater system you install, as long as it suits your requirements of an entertainments system, then it’s your “home Theater”.
So how do you really enhance the experience?  Follow these simple tips on how to boost the movie experience in your existing home theater system:
·      Invest on a carpet.  But before you purchase one, make sure that none of your family members are allergic to carpets or rugs.  You don’t want to end up getting irritated while watching the “Dark Knight”.  If you’re looking for a great bargain, know when is the good time to buy a carpet.  Buy during their slow seasons at around December 15 up to January 30th.  Look for a rug that will absorb the sound.
·      Plan your lighting.  Having a dimmer or darker room is much inviting when watching a movie.  No one wants to watch a great movie with all lights on.  Bad lighting can also cause glare on your screens, which can affect the experience.  Directional lighting is highly recommended.
·      Make sure that you block the light coming from the outside.  Using thick draperies and curtains should do the job.  A darker room is also advisable.  Use dark colored paint for your walls as this helps in reducing glare on the screen.
·      Using high speed HDMI cable will also help in enhancing the experience.  These cables help in providing clear and high quality audio and digital video output for your home theater.  PIMFG.com also sells Fiber Optic Cable if you also need a telephone, an Internet or a cable connection inside your home theater room.
·      Invest on comfortable seats.  This will seal the ultimate home theater experience.  You’re inside your theater to watch, enjoy and at the same time relax with your family and friends.  A home theater sofa or sectional would be comfortable especially if you are with your loved one.
Get the most out of what you have.  Share the experience with your loved ones.  Enhance your home theater experience now.

How to Clean Your LCD Screens

Question:  I have a new Flat screen TV on my wall and I just noticed that after a few weeks of using it, there are smudges and dust particles on the screen.  Since this is my first flat screen, I just want to be careful with it.  How do I go about cleaning it?  Can I do the same cleaning that I did with my CRT?
Answer:  Flat screen TVs are not like your traditional CRTs.  Whether it's LCD, LED or Plasma, it would require extra care.   To begin with, screens of LCDs are not as tough as the screen used for your CRTs.  Cleaning these CRTs are just like cleaning a normal glass in your home.  LCDs are more sensitive and very thin thus requiring added attention when cleaning.  Aside from being expensive and sleek looking, flat screens are energy and space savers, hence proper maintenance is highly prioritized.
Below are some tips on how you can take care of your flat screens:
Make sure that you read the manual that comes with the unit.  Following the manual is the surest way to maintain it and to ensure that you don't just break the screen and cause you your warranty.
1.     Make sure that it's turned off.  It will help you see all smudges, oil and dust that are on the screen.  This will allow your screen to cool off before damping it with a wet wipe.  Some would even recommend that you unplug it.
2.     Use soft, lint-free cloth instead of tissue or paper towels as this may possibly scratch the screen.  Make sure that you go through the manual, as some manufacturers would not advise that you use wet cloth.  Don’t push the cloth towards the screen as this may damage the screen and might cause pixels to burn.
3.     You can use distilled water to wet your cloth before wiping the screen.  Again go back to the manual and check for the required liquid cleaner if they have it.
Aside from cleaning your screen with a lint-free cloth, you can also use a vacuum cleaner.  Aside from LCD screen cleaners, PI Manufacturing also sells video baluns for your security camera requirements.Take care of your LCD!  Cleaning it the right way is way cheaper than damaging the screen.

Myth About High Quality Speakers

Setting up your Home Theater system is as staggering as choosing the right components that will go with it.  People would spend a great deal of time buying the right components but on the other hand, would disregard the importance of choosing the right speaker cables.  They feel that if they have excellent speakers and combine those with a High Definition Television, everything will turn out the way they want it.  This is a myth.  You need to break out of it.  If you want to make sure that you get your money’s worth on all the components that you’ve purchased, you have to have the right cables and wirings that should go with it.  PI Manufacturing Corporation offers high quality cables, wires and other connectors and video baluns for your specific requirements.
The extensive options for high quality and dependable speaker cables in the market are quite overwhelming, not to mention online options that you can also choose from.  Price will surely make a difference in choosing the cable but it should not dictate your options.  Some high priced speaker cables may not go well with your components.  Likewise, a very cheap cable may not go along well with your expensive components.  So where do you strike a balance?  Get a professional opinion.  Join forums if you need to before purchasing.  Try to go around and compare which one will be suitable for your taste.  If you haven’t purchased anything yet, you may want to list down your choices and think it through before making that major decision.
One basic thing that you should always put on top of your mind is that without these cables, there will be no sound.  It is very important that the transmitted sound will not loose any signal during data transmission so as to preserve the original sound. This is our bottom-line.
Myth: High quality speakers + Excellent TV = Excellent Home Theater System
High Quality Speakers + High Quality Speaker Cables + Excellent TV
=
Excellent and High Quality Home Theater System

Research and Markets Reveal Market Forecast for the CCTV Industry

Over the last few years, there has been an increase in demand for video surveillance products such as video baluns, CCTV security cameras, and DVR surveillance. This is because consumers are now becoming more protective of their properties and surveillance is not just for business but for homes as well. CCTV manufacturers and video balun retailers now experience a surge in the industry as the demand for technically-advanced surveillance systems continue to rise.

ResearchandMarkets.com, considered as the world’s largest market research resource, has recently released a report forecasting the global CCTV market up until 2014. According to the report, “the market for the global CCTV will reach around US$ 23.5 Billion by the end of 2014,” with the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of about 20.5% from today.

Accordingly, the report also indicated how the switch from analog CCTV cameras, which are currently the dominant products in the market today, to network IP will happen by the end of 2014. The report also discussed what factors will affect this change into the IP technology market, especially now that IP Storage Area Network (IP SAN) is becoming more in demand than conventional DVRs and NVRs. The evolution of video analytics is also largely affected by threats of terrorism and businesses and other establishments are finding more cost-effective but equally advanced ways to monitor their properties.

In terms of technology, the use of CCTV systems is prevalent in both the transportation and retail sectors, not only for valuable management information but for safety purposes as well. It discussed how video surveillance as a service of VSaaS is quickly an emerging trend in CCTV systems too. By 2014, the regions of Asia and the Middle East will be major players in the global CCTV market while India and China will continue to be key drivers because of their large population.

Surveillance Systems in Hospitals

Hospitals, just like any public establishment, require surveillance systems not just for the patients but for the employees as well. Installed with video baluns, DVR surveillance, and security cameras, it is a must for every hospital to have its own surveillance system. The countless number of people who work and come in at hospitals is just one reason why it is a requirement to have CCTV surveillance. More importantly, hospitals will greatly benefit from having video baluns and CCTV cameras installed because it will protect everyone who is inside as well as within the premises of the establishment.

Similar to other public places, CCTV cameras prevent crimes and other mischievous activities to happen in hospitals. With employees, patients, and visitors knowing about installed security cameras, they would definitely think twice about doing something illegal in the premises. As for employees, security cameras avert patients from making false claims against violence and other similar injury claims. Hospitals lose hundreds of thousands of dollars from patients suing them against maltreatment and video surveillance stops this from happening.

Efficiency and productivity is improved if security cameras are placed in the hospital. Employees have no other choice but to work and stop doing nonsense activities because they know that every little thing they do is monitored on cameras placed all over the establishment. Thus, productivity is improved and communication becomes better in the long run. Disputes are likewise averted since employees and patients can turn to visual evidence to resolve any kind of conflict immediately.

When choosing the best locations to install video baluns and security cameras, take note of the most critical areas. These are the ones that need video surveillance. Parking lots, entrance and exit gates, visitors’ lobbies, hallways, and waiting halls are the best areas to place video surveillance. Elevators and fire escapes are secondary priorities.

With the installation of video surveillance, it doesn’t mean that hospital security should rely on this technology entirely. There should be alternative security arrangements and back-up plans to make sure that hospitals are 100% safe and secure.

Surveillance Systems in Casinos

The casino industry is one of the largest consumers of video baluns, DVR surveillance, and security cameras. This is because the nature of casino attracts so many crooks, robbers, and other equally-threatening individuals. Because of this, top-notch security is needed to prevent evil-minded men and women to even think about robbing casinos. There is a need to provide security and safety for all guests to make them feel welcome within the walls of the casinos. Additionally, surveillance systems are in place to watch gamblers and employees’ every move.

These are the types of cameras commonly used by the casino industry:

PTZ Cameras

PTZ or point, tilt, and zoom cameras are used by casinos to monitor each and every individual who enters and leaves the establishment. With PTZ cameras, security personnel can instantly focus on any area of the casino. The gambler’s face, the dealer’s hand, or even the ATM machine can be easily viewed with PTZ cameras.

Megapixel Technology

With megapixel technology, any member of the casino’s security personnel can immediately view images by pixel, enlarging any given section of an image to bigger sizes for more detailed viewing. Two-megapixel surveillance cameras allow casino officials to shoot 30 frames a second.

Facial Recognition Technology

With cameras that offer facial recognition technology, even gamblers’ eyes can be monitored by surveillance cameras. This is because of the biometrics system wherein numeric codes are assigned to the eyes. Anyone who has been banned or in disguise can still be recognized by cameras that use this kind of technology.

Other industries that use surveillance systems include banks, malls, restaurants, and other commercial establishments. It is clear that security cameras, video baluns, and CCTV surveillance are not just for home use. With these preventive measures in place, evildoers should think twice about planning something terrible that could potentially harm a lot of people.

The Use of CCTV Systems Around the World (Part II)

A couple of weeks ago, we discussed the use of surveillance systems around the world, thanks to a recent study conducted by Surveillance & Society. The United Kingdom is one of the biggest consumers of video baluns, CCTV cameras, and surveillance systems, with cameras totaling to around 4.2 million. In both Europe and the United States, surveillance systems are more prevalent in the private sector than for public security. However, shops, banks, restaurants, and schools are now beginning to appreciate the value of CCTV cameras.

Today, we focus on other countries like Australia, South Africa, China, and the Middle East and find out how they maximize video baluns, CCTV cameras, and surveillance systems.

In Australia, the number of cities increased from a mere 13 in 1996 to 33 in 2002. The public transport system also uses CCTV surveillance. For example, the New South Wales state railway employs 5500 cameras at over 300 stations while the state busses have cameras in all 1900 of them.

In South Africa, the death of a passenger prompted the South African Railway Commuter Corporation to install four CCTV cameras on each of the 4,500 train carriages to prevent another incident such as the aforementioned from happening again. Additionally, all commercial venues such as casinos, hotels, and banks use CCTV cameras. It is quite interesting to note that ATM banks do not have surveillance systems.

China is developing a wide-scale launch of a national surveillance infrastructure in the form of the Golden Shield Project. The project aims to “to build a nationwide digital surveillance network, linking national, regional and local security agencies with a panoptic web of surveillance.” Large malls, squares, theatres, and entertainment venue are just some of the highly-populated area that the project aims to closely monitor.

Finally, in the Middle East, the use of surveillance system is geared towards the protection against terrorists and protecting commercial establishments come a close second.

As you can see, surveillance systems are now widely used around the world, mostly for protection purposes. Invest in one now. Purchase active or passive video baluns, CCTV cameras, and surveillance systems to protect your business and residential homes against potential threats. SOURCE

The Use of CCTV Systems Around the World (Part I)

Surveillance & Society, a journal dedicated to Surveillance Studies recently released an editorial on the evolution of CCTV systems around the world and how their functions have advanced over the years. Yes, there is such a thing as Surveillance Studies, a discipline that focuses on researching the growing use of surveillance all over the globe. Surveillance Studies not only touches on camera surveillance, video baluns, biometrics, and border controls, it also discusses monitoring, tracking, and everything else that has to do with surveillance research.

Clive Norris, Mike McCahill, and David Wood surveyed the growth of closed-circuit television systems or CCTVs around the world and here is a brief summary of what the study revealed.

The United Kingdom, for example, is known to be the “the most surveilled country” in the whole of Western states, according to the Surveillance Studies Network. The research revealed that by 2003, around £250 million of public money have been used on CCTV, though some of the systems were also installed in schools, hospitals, and transport facilities. Currently, Norris and McCahill guestimate the total number of cameras in the UK to be around 4.2 million.

In Europe, the use of CCTV systems in public areas is commonly seen in shops, banks, restaurants, bars, and transport terminals. With the UK having over 40,000 surveillance systems in public spaces, European cities only probably have less than 1000.

In the United States, CCTV systems were first employed to monitor pedestrian traffic in downtown and residential districts. It grew in 2003, when parks, malls, monuments, and schools were also installed with surveillance systems. Just like Europe, the growth in surveillance system usage is more predominant across the private sector.

While this post focused on the more urbanized nations, next week we look at other countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Russia, China, Japan, and more.

FAQs: Using Security Cameras in the Workplace

Security cameras and CCTV systems are frequently installed in the workplace, complete with video baluns to save on cable expenses. Because of the benefit s of installing security cameras and CCTV systems in both small offices and larger corporations, more and more companies are beginning to invest in this method of business security. However, there are certain technical and policy issues that employers are sometimes unaware of. Here are a couple of questions that will help you make the right choices when it comes to the use of surveillance systems in the workplace.

Is it possible to monitor my business and respect the privacy of my employees at the same time?

Protecting your business against theft, robbery, violence, and even drug use are just some of the reasons why companies are encouraged to install security cameras with video baluns in their buildings and offices. To prevent overstepping the privacy of your employees, it is best to explain this new initiative to them. Make them aware that security cameras are now in place to protect the company from all possible damages that can be done. This can be done by email, a written memo, or a meeting. You can also require your employees to acknowledge the surveillance policy to make sure that you do not encounter legal problems in the future.

What options are available to me in terms of technology and security cameras?

Because of today’s technology, there are so many options that employers can choose from when it comes to security cameras. For example, recording in direct sunlight is a challenge because direct light can easily ruin your videos and these you cannot use when you need to look for something or someone that only the video can answer. Today, there are certain security cameras that allow recording under bright lights through backlight compensation. The use of DVRs also makes it possible to record directly to a hard drive from up to 32 cameras. State-of-the-art DVRs now even offer facial recognition, museum searches, and abandoned object analysis to make investigation easier.

Security cameras, CCTV systems, and video baluns offer your business better defense against evildoers. Employees are now aware that surveillance systems are everywhere so it should not be a problem when it comes to privacy. Additionally, research the options available to you to maximize your surveillance system.

How to Use a Computer Monitor for CCTV Security Cameras

Earlier, we taught you how to be more practical by using computers to monitor your home surveillance systems. Our previous post focused on wireless security cameras and it is amazing how technology makes everything so easy nowadays. With just a simple click, you can easily monitor your home using a wireless security camera.

If, however, you opt for CCTV security cameras, you will need a different configuration and you probably will have to purchase additional hardware to connect your camera to your computer. You may not use video baluns in this case because there are different cables that you need. It’s not that difficult. Find out how:

1. The first thing you have to do is to purchase a video-to-VGA converter box. Analog video data on computers are displayed using VGA inputs but with CCTV security systems, they use standard video ports similar to those used by television sets. Unfortunately, they do not have native compatibility so you have to buy a video-to-VGA converter box in order to use your CCTV security camera.

2. A VGA switch box is another thing that you have to buy. Because a monitor only has one video port, you will need a VGA switch box so you can easily switch between the camera and computer video feeds.

3. A CCTV security camera has a video feed cable which you should attach to the video-to-VGA converter box. Additionally, you should also attach a VGA cable between the converter box and VGA switch box.

4. Now, the computer’s monitor cable should also be plugged into the other port of the VGA switch box. Another VGA cable from the switch box should be attached to the computer monitor as well.

5. You can now monitor your home using your computer simply by switching the feed from the computer to the camera. This way, you can still multitask and do other things on your computer while switching to the camera feed from time to time.

CCTV Camera: Back to Basics

If by now you have noticed how we’ve been going on and on about CCTV cameras without actually offering an introduction to what it really is, then we do apologize sincerely. This week, we shift our focus to CCTV cameras as we share interesting facts about one of the most useful tools for businesses and residential locations. Of course, CCTV cameras work best if you have video baluns and other necessary parts available. CCTV video baluns are also available in the market today. Before we delve deeper, first let us discuss the importance of a CCTV camera.

Aside from commercial and residential establishments, major cities are now investing heavily on CCTV cameras to keep close watch on what goes on in the streets when citizens think no one is looking. Of course, as you all know, the primary purpose of a CCTV camera is to provide surveillance. Crimes are so much easier to solve with evidence from a CCTV camera. Aside from being a watchful eye, a CCTV camera can also prevent an individual from doing a crime. Imagine planning something evil only to find out that the store or house actually has a CCTV camera. Nope, those plans will be thwarted soon enough.

CCTVs, when it first developed in 1970s, were actually analog in nature. In today’s world, there are rare technologies that are still on the analog type and CCTVs have evolved to keep up with digital evolution. With digital CCTV systems, they become easier to manage as there is no longer the need for large cable systems to transmit and encode data.

Of the 25 million CCTVs in the world today, 2.5million of those are found in the United Kingdom. According to the numbers, the average citizen is caught on CCTV cameras at a rate of 300 times a day, and that is just in major cities like London.

Today, CCTVs play a large role in preventing theft, robbery, and other major crimes. In fact, it has been a useful tool in identifying the perpetrators of the July 2005 bombing in London. Setting up a CCTV camera system for your home is a wise idea. With the right tools and parts such as video baluns, it won’t be long until your home or business is protected from evildoers.

Wireless Security Camera Options: Using a Computer as a Monitor

Conventional security cameras are typically monitored using closed circuit television (CCTV) monitors, often connected via video baluns. However, not all homes can afford CCTV monitors because they do cost a bit more pricy. In these times of economic downturn, families still want to feel safe in their own homes without spending too much on surveillance systems. Fortunately, a more practical alternative is available – using computers as monitors.

It is possible, though video baluns and other connections may not be used. In fact, you may need additional hardware but they wouldn’t cost as much as CCTV monitors. One option that you could look into is wireless security cameras and they can be used with computers, offering a more streamlined connection. If you are looking into setting up your computer as a monitor for your home security system, here’s what you need to do:

1. Wireless security cameras can work with computer monitors via a wireless network router. With your router, just attach the wireless webcam security camera with another Ethernet cable.

2. Once you’ve done so, install the wireless security camera using the program that came with the camera. This program will allow you to configure the computer so you can access the camera directly from it. It will also prepare the camera for wireless security monitoring.

3. After preparing the wireless security camera on the computer, you can now remove the Ethernet cable. You should only need this to configure the camera.

 4. You may now install the webcam on entrances, exits, or any location you wish to do so. If you need help in finding the best locations to install security cameras, check out our previous post to help you decide.

5. Once the security camera has been installed, you can now monitor the webcam using the software you used.
